How to pick the perfect music for your ceremony

Updated: Jan 31

So, you've opted to have a live singer or musician for your ceremony... great choice!

You have already given your wedding a point of difference and ensured it will stand out from the pack.

Whilst there's nothing like the moment you walk down the aisle looking amazing, with all eyes on you in your beautiful gown or dapper suit, there IS something you can do to make that moment even more memorable.

Having a live musician or singer definitely resonates with guests as it creates an ambiance that adds to the romance of the moment.

What makes this moment even more unforgettable is the right choice of music.

You have your classics bulletproof instrumental numbers such as "Canon in D" or "Wagner's Bridal Chorus" (and their many variations), or your vintage and contemporary favourites like "At Last", "A Thousand Years" or "From This Moment On", and even the classical favourite "Ave Maria". They are all tunes that are sure to tug at the heartstrings.

But are they going to stand out against every other wedding?

If you want to give your wedding ceremony an even bigger edge, why not think outside the box and consider something that hasn't been 'done to death'?

Maybe a slow ambient rendition of a rock, pop or dance song, or rehashing an old classic that no-one you know has used recently.

Amongst some of the 'quirkier' songs I have performed at wedding ceremonies have been my own acoustic renditions of Guns & Roses' "Sweet Child of Mine", The Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun", "All you Need is Love", "Something" and "I wanna Hold your Hand" (sample below), Madonna's "Like a Prayer", Beyonce's "Crazy in Love". Justin Bieber's "Let Me Love You", Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" and KISS' "I Was Made For Loving You", just off the top of my head.

Make a statement with your choice of song, consider the lyrics or choose something that resonates with you and your partner, perhaps the song that was playing when you first met.

Don't forget there are no rules, it's YOUR wedding day and you can choose any music you want. It's all about creating the warm fuzzy feels, so let your imagination run wild and get creative with your song choices!
